Going through each problem was great and viewing the solutions really helped me improve. That book is just a preparwtion learning resource that helped me understand positional concepts.

Dvoretsky was said to have commissioned a computer program in aagaaed mids that would feature his collection of problems, but to my knowledge, the program never gained wide release. Attack and Defense is a good resource. Grandmaster Aagaard is an ardent believer in the benefits of hard work. I’m familiar with a couple of his Chessbase CDs “Right Decisions” has a few subtopics on calculation. For me, however, the material on rook endings is particularly useful, and the chapter on fortresses is absolutely fascinating.
Calculation carefully will make you a much stronger player, open your eyes to new possibilities, allow you to immerse yourself into positions from completely different angles, and see possibilities that would have surprised you before.
This is a minor gripe and one that it has in common with most books that have test positions or puzzles to solve.

Calculation has detailed solutions grandmaxter clear up misconceptions. Whether this will help lead them to the Grandmaster title is an open question, but there can be no question that they will show serious improvement if they conscientiously work through Calculation. I’m always interested in opinions about the usefulness of books for players of different rating strength and the warnings that reading books aimed at upper level players is a waste of time for lower ranked players.
